Come March 6, and The Hindu will celebrate the woman in style! To mark a century since the International Women's Day came to be, The Hindu and the Chennai Silks jointly present WoW (World of Women), with events and activities for women. Here's the line-up.
Heels on Wheels (March 6)
A treasure hunt will start at Citi Centre, and take the women around the city, looking for clues. The event is musical as the clues will be voiceovers on a CD handed out to participants. The event will begin at 8 a.m., and the registrations at 6 a.m. To register, visit www.heelsonwheels.com or call 98400-15075 / 99406-15300.
Carnival (March 6)
The participants will come back to a carnival in progress, with exciting activities such as mehendi, tattooing, hair braiding, one-minute makeover among others. There are also contests, and prizes to be won at the carnival. It will begin at 2 p.m. at the Citi Centre atrium, and is open to all.
Paint and Perspectives (March 7)
Galleries owned by women will present ‘Paint and Perspectives', an exhibition showcasing works of women artists, for a week.
Supper Theatre (March 7)
The same evening, a play by Madras Players and performances by prominent bharatanatyam dancers will bring to stage women-centric issues. Entry by invitation only.
Rose Distribution (March 8)
As we complete exactly a century of celebrating womanhood, 10,000 young women across women's colleges in the city will be greeted with roses.
Divas Live! (March 8)
The grand finale of the celebrations will be at the Music Academy with Divas Live — a music concert hosted by Anuradha Ananth, with performances by singers such as Chinmayi, Tanvi Shah, Swetha Mohan and Andrea Jeremiah.
It will begin at 7 p.m. Proceeds from the concert will go to a self-help women's group.
So, are you ready to celebrate the woman in you?
