Actresses and their on-screen voices
The import of actresses from North India and non-Tamil speaking States has been the trend since the early 70’s and has been continuing till now as a non-stop affair. Khushboo, Shriya Saran, Tamannaah Bhatia, Poonam Bajwa, Taapsee, Charmee Kaur, Neetu Chandra, Snidgha, Vega, Kangna Ranaut, Hansika Motwani, Vedhika, …… the list is endless.
Almost all of them, with the exception of a few, are even able to engage a brief conversation with others. Tamannaah, who has been a frontline heroine for the past few years, has of course learnt to speak in Tamil faster than others. She has taken a cue from Khushboo ,who rarely dubbed in her own voice in Tamil films during the time when she was on top in the early nineties.
Archana, heroine of Sasikumar’s ‘Easan’, has gone on a crash-course to learn to speak in Tamil. Neetu Chandra now has a Tamil tutor arranged by director Ameer. Anushka Shetty a.k.a. Anuskha who hails from the neighbouring Karnataka unlike many of the above-said heroines who hail from either Punjab or from the North Indian States, hasn’t apparently made any sincere effort to learn to speak in Tamil.
We don’t know whether Anuskha has no time to learn Tamil through a tutor or she has no interest in learning but she relies entirely on playback singer Chinmayee to dub for her in all her Tamil and Telugu films. As Chinmayee remains busy with her playback assignments, Anushka makes it a point to tell her producers (at the time of taking up an assignment) that they should ensure that Chinmayee too is signed up to dub for her character in the film.
Chinmayee, lent her voice for Tamannaah’s character in the film ‘Kandein Kaadhalai’ which went a long way in making it a reasonably successful film, received accolades from various quarters for having dubbed for Trisha in ‘Vinnai Thaandi Varuvya’. Chinmayee also does dubbing regularly for Tollywood actress Samantha in Telugu films!
We wonder why actresses like Trisha and Sneha (who are well-versed in Tamil) decide to give the skip when it comes to dubbing in their own voices for their respective characters in films.

The Mozart of Madras, A.R. Rahman is riding a high of creativity at the moment. Belting out hits is his hobby, but his passions clearly extend beyond lyrics and remixes. Launching his trademark calendar for the second consecutive year, the maestro with a golden touch tied up with World Light (Audio Media Education Subsidiary) to put together a stellar calendar.
From Chinmayi’s classic portrayal as a traditional singer to Benny Dayal’s animated crooning, the musicians enlivened the calendar with their action shots. It is an amazing amalgam of energy and positive vision, that Rahman embodies. An interesting aspect of the calendar is that of the ten musicians featured in it, eight of them found their way into the industry through the double Grammy winner.
“At the Foundation, we know that there is no better investment than that in the education of children,” says the musical hero of Chennai. The vision of the A.R. Rahman Foundation is to strive towards making poverty history.
As a first step towards achieving this vision, the foundation has set up educational institutions and provides world class, state-of-the-art infrastructure and education to underprivileged children who do not have the means to access and fund their education. The Foundation is presently providing free music education to 30 students from corporation schools in Chennai.
One of A.R.Rahman’s quotes in the calendar is in Tamil and translates to evince his deep belief in the Almighty- “Each and every glory belongs to God.”

For the second year in a row, the A.R.Rahman Foundation in collaboration with World Light (Audio Media Education Subsidiary) has come out with their official calendar. Supporting the cause of education for less privileged children, the Foundation has set up educational institutions and provides world class, state-of-the-art infrastructure and education to underprivileged children who do not have the means to access and fund their education. This will equip them with knowledge and skill sets to pursue specialized higher studies that will provide them career opportunities to build a secure future for themselves and their families, Foundation states.

Samantha's 'Chinmayi' Goes To Trisha
If there is one reason why Samantha was loved so much in ‘Ye Maya Chesaave’, it was not just her lovely smile but her husky voice. Many got appealed by that voice and the person responsible for that is Chinmayi. Now, this person has become a hot property in the southern circuit.Apparently, Chinmayi is a singer cum professional dubbing artist and she has rendered her voice for Trisha in the Tamil version of ‘YMC’ and now the latest release ‘Manmadha Baanam’. Her voice is giving that extra kick to a heroine’s beauty and since then, Chinmayi’s fans have been on the rise.
They are guessing that just like her voice, even Chinmayi must be sizzling in her looks and are waiting for an opportunity to see how she looks. Chinmayi dubs for Trisha in Manmadha Baanam
Manmadhan Ambu is all set for a grand premiere in the coming days and the Telugu version ‘Manmadha Baanam’ is also eyeing release.
Earlier announcements from the production house the film stated the date of release December 17 which was later pushed by a week because, now we know why , it was because the dubbing work for ‘Manmadha Baanam’ has not been completed yet and is still in editing stages. Lakshmi Ganapathy Films will be distributing the movie in Andhra Pradesh.
The dubbing for Kamal Haasan in Telugu has being handled by SP Balasubramaniam. SPB has been the perfect choice when a Kamal film is dubbed in Telugu.
We also got updates that Chinmayi is dubbing for Trisha keeping in mind that the role involves reading a lot of poetry. Everyone felt Chinmayi would do justice to the performance as her mother tongue is Telugu,.

According to the first announcements from the production house the film was to be released on December 17. But was later pushed by a week because, the dubbing work for ‘Manmadha Baanam’ is not yet complete and is still on.

As the mother tongue of Chinmayi is Telugu, everyone felt she can do justice to the role. Lakshmi Ganapathy Films is distributing the film in Andhra Pradesh. ‘Manmadhan Ambu’ is expected to get bumper opening all over the world because of the Christmas holiday season.

T here was enough food for thought at the prize distribution function for the recipe contest organised by chennailivenews.com.
Well-known playback singer Chinmayi, a self-confessed foodie, and her mother T. Padmhasini, who has done research on Indian herbs, graced the occasion.
Mother and daughter talked about different aspects of food. Padmhasini, delved into the strengths of Indian cooking and Indian ingredients such as dry ginger (sukku), pepper (melagu) and castor oil; Chinmayi, gave a humorous account of life with a mother who used to feed her all kinds of kashayams. “Of course, they have improved my immunity and made my voice what it is today,” she smiled. She also spoke about her budding interest in baking.
Padmhasini, an Indologist and a musicologist gave useful health tips. She stressed on the need to have chukku kashayam in the morning on an empty stomach as it cleanses the stomach. Strict vegetarians, the duo highlighted the goodness of vegetarianism.
From the several entries to the cookery contest, Padmhasini and Chinmayi picked three winners — Sripriya Venkatraman (surakkai halwa), Lalitha Mahadevan (rosagulla) Chandra Vasudevan (porivilangai urundai) and Prathima Giri (chakkali).

Singer Chinmayi who shot to fame as the voice of Jessy/Samantha in ‘Ye Maya Chesave’ is going to dub for a Telugu movie again. This time though she is dubbing for Trisha. The movie in question is Pawan Kalyan’s remake of Love Aaj Kal. The film is slated to release in April 2011.
